Biography

Born in 1978, freelance photographer George Frandsen was raised in Utah where he developed his ability to illustrate the subtle, yet powerful forces of the Desert Southwest in his photography. After graduating with a B.Sc. in anthropology from the University of Utah in 2002, he began travelling to remote ecosystems throughout Asia and the Americas in search of poignant images that he hopes will act as ambassadors for conservation. His photographs have appeared in various publications including Photo Life, Outdoor Photography, Nature Photographer, Nature Friend, and online at Outdoor Photographer, National Geographic, and The Nature Conservancy.
Frandsen has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Utah’s Best of State Award for Photography, 2nd place for “Weather” in the 2009 National Geographic Energizer Ultimate Photo Contest, and 1st Place for Nature/Wildlife in the 2006 International Photography Awards. This was the same year he in which he received his Licentiateship distinction from United Kingdom’s Royal Photographic Society.
Frandsen is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and his current projects include The Plight of the World’s Orangutans, Utah’s West Desert, and Ancient Rock Art and Ruins of Utah.
